Sydney Clark Heindel Jr., 97, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Sarah Garrison Heindel died on Monday, September 2, 2019 surrounded by his family. His memorial service will be held at a later date at The Palms. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Born April 1, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Sydney Clark Heindel Sr. and the late Jennie Heindel. Sydney served in the United States Army and enjoyed telling of his adventures with a truck convoy on the Burma Road during WWII. Sydney received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Georgia and retired from the State of Georgia as an auditor. Sydney was an active member in the Habersham County Historical Society and Cornelia United Methodist Church. He enjoyed astronomy and was an avid card player. He and his wife, Sarah, have been participants in an Alzheimer's study for more than 20 years at Emory University. To further Alzheimer's research Sydney was a brain donor.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sarah G. Heindel of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Frank G. Heindel (Renee) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three grandsons, Frank Heindel Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Joseph Heindel of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Nick Heindel of Mt. Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Brooke Heindel of Cornelia, GA. He was preceded in death by his son, Clark Heindel and grandson Jake Heindel.
