Sybil Rogers Ludlam Hoogenboom, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2011. The relatives and friends of Sybil Hoogenboom are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Mrs. Hoogenboom was born on August 20, 1921 in Anderson, South Carolina, the daughter of the late George Martin Rogers and Matilda Wilson Rogers. After their deaths she was raised by an uncle and aunt, Jacob Macduffie Rogers and Lucinda Martin Rogers. She was educated in Anderson County schools, was a graduate of Winthrop College, and did graduate work at the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Hoogenboom taught in Anderson schools, in Claremont, California schools, and in Mt. Pleasant schools. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, The Women's Club of Charleston, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Alpha Delta Kappa, honorary teacher sorority.
She is survived by two step-children, Ronald Hoogenboom of Scottsdale, AZ and Audrey Hoogenboom Beres of Fairfield, CT and their eight children; eleven nieces and nephews, Pedie Hiers (Gerry) of Bamberg, SC, Ann Morgan Vickery (Ray) of Vienna, VA, Jane Vincent Becker of Matthews, NC, Judith Morgan More (Alan) of Farnham Common, England, Jayne Greene Allison of Columbia, SC, Mary Morgan of Columbia, SC, Linda Vincent Morgan of Matthews, NC, Dotsi Morgan Hoffman (Fred) of Concord, NC, Joe Morgan (Tricia) of Charlotte, NC, Catherine Morgan Scurry(Jerry) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Alice Ann Rogers Reu (Marshall) of Cary, NC. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Fairfax Ludlam, who died in 1969 and Martin John Hoogenboom, whom she married in 1972 and who died in 2004.
