Susan Massengill Mood, 85, of Mount Pleasant, SC, entered into eternal rest Friday, April 8, 2022. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul, 126 Coming Street, Charleston, SC 29403. A Reception and Visitation will take place at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, in the Parish Hall. The committal service is private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Susan was born June 18, 1936 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, daughter of Robert Cameron Massengill, M.D. and Virginia Youngblood Massengill. She attended Converse College, Spartanburg, South Carolina where she earned a degree in History. She studied interior design in Dallas and began a 42-year career as an interior designer in Kansas City, MO, Jackson, MS, and Charleston, SC.
Susan moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 1988. She attended The French Protestant (Huguenot) Church where she met, fell in love with and married William Jervey Mood, M.D. in 1989. Susan participated in numerous events and organizations including the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s Designer Showcase House (1995, 1996), the Huguenot Church’s choir and Women of the Church, the Women’s Council of the Gibbes Museum of Art, and the Garden Club of Charleston. After the death of her husband, Susan joined St. Michael’s Church where her daughter and family attended. She participated in numerous Bible studies and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. As an avid reader, she co-founded a book club that continued for more than 20 years.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Amy Watson Smith, son-in-law, Michael Keith Smith, M.D. and granddaughter, Elizabeth Cameron Smith, all of Mount Pleasant, SC; her son, Wallace Steadman Watson, Jr., daughter-in-law, Nancy Reith Watson, and grandson, Jonathan Steadman Watson, all of Boulder, Colorado; her brother, Robert V. Massengill and sister-in-law, Carol LaMon Massengill, of Brookhaven, MS; four stepchildren, Rebecca Mood Cezar, William Jervey Mood, Jr., Nelson Young Mood, and James Reader Mood; step daughters-in-law, Rochella Rabon Mood and Amy Sunderland Mood; step son-in-law, Nelson Cezar; and, step grandchildren, Jennifer Nell Cezar, Bryan Nelson Cezar, Peter James Mood, and Preston Carie Mood.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson, Robert Terence Watson,
