Susan Dukes Thackston Clark, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Walter Penn Clark "Pete" entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 5, 2022. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at  J. Henry Stuhr Mount Pleasant Chapel,1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.  A private interment will be held at a later date.

Susan was born February 6, 1935 in Anniston, Alabama, daughter of the late Colonel Albert Jerome Thackston, Jr. and Julia Dukes Thackston. She graduated from William and Mary and received a Masters in Special Education from Converse College. She was elected into the Who's Who for Education in 1990. Susan spent her career patiently teaching and tutoring children, mostly in the Spartanburg Public School System.

Susan loved her family and friends, and enjoyed entertaining. She will be remembered for her humor and quick wit. Susan will be dearly missed by her husband of 65 years, Pete; son, Walter Philmon Clark "Phil" of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Cynthia Louise Clark Coakley "Cindy" (Hank) of Atlanta, GA; and her precious granddaughter, Catherine Thackston Coakley.
