Susan Lovejoy Armknecht, age 56, of Noank CT, left this world for a better one on March 14, 2026. Born December 19,1969 in Boston, MA, Susan was the only daughter of Bob and Mary Armknecht.

 She is preceded in death by her mother Mary whom she adored. She is survived by her long-time partner Craig Tobias, her father and brother, Bob and Bob (Wife:Karen), her niece and nephew, Caroline and Graham, her best friend Laura Govoni, her dog Mikey, and countless friends whose lives she made better just by knowing her. 

Having received a biology degree from Tufts University in 1991, Susan met Craig in 1993 while working on a master’s degree in marine science at William and Mary. They remained together until Susan’s passing. Susan never quenched her passion for learning. Relentlessly curious, she accrued a remarkable breadth of achievements spanning science, the arts, and activism. Susan’s life was one of fierce independence, strength, kindness, clarity of purpose and inexhaustible energy. She was most at home in the quiet, wide-open wilderness surrounded by creatures of any and all species. 

Susan devoted her life to helping animals wherever she found them. She influenced the lives of so many people during her journey through this life, making all of us think, act, and be better. Hers was a rich life of kindness and compassion. Susan will be missed by all whom she touched, human and not.
