Sue Stowers Morrow

October 27, 1928 — April 2, 2021

Sue Stowers Morrow of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Samuel H. "Mike" Morrow, Jr., entered into eternal rest Friday, April 2, 2021, in her home, in the presence of her children. The relatives and friends of Sue are invited to attend the funeral services in Grace Church Cathedral on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Entombment at Grace Church Columbarium will take place at a later date..

Sue was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, daughter of the late Eugene S. Stowers and Iva M. Stowers. She graduated from Salem College where she met the love of her life, Mike. Sue worked as a school teacher prior to staying home to raise their four children. She was a longtime member of Grace Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the vestry, and dedicated countless years on the Altar Guild. Sue also worked as a tour guide with Historic Charleston and volunteered at the MUSC Children's Hospital.

Sue and Mike enjoyed traveling, UNC basketball and spending time with their family and close friends. There were many wonderful trips with Mike and weeks at Seabrook with her sister, Nancy, and niece, Emily. Sue, aka Emmie, would never turn down an opportunity to help her children with transportation, school projects, field trips, sporting events, listening, providing free advice and anything else needed. With the arrival of their grandchildren, Emmie loved being a babysitter, a driving instructor, errand runner or simply baking cookies and brownies.

Sue always had pets and a sewing project in the works. Buddy was her last beloved pet, preceded by many others that received royal treatment. A family favorite of her many sewing projects is the manger scene kneeler, with the UNC mascot among the manger animals.

She is survived by her two sons: Robert Stowers Morrow (Bradley) of Charleston, SC and Samuel H. Morrow III of West Jefferson, NC; two daughters: Nancy Morrow Smith (Richard) of St. Matthews, SC and Christine Ann Morrow of Charleston, SC; eleven grandchildren: Audrey, Michael, Austin, Laura Ann, Van, Rivers, Robert, Hallie, Jonus, Anna Bradley and Sam; three great-grandchildren: Michael Sullivan, Kinsey and Tristan; a sister, Nancy S. Waugh of Tallahassee, FL; sisters-in-law: Ann Stowers and Sarah Stowers of Knoxville, TN and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mike, of 60 years, her parents and her three brothers, Bud, Dick, and Harry.

The family wishes to thank Bishop Gadsden Home Health and the care provided, especially by caregiver Gina Jacobs.
