Steven Scott Sawyer

August 16, 1960 — June 30, 2021

Steven Scott Sawyer, 60, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Celebration of life services will be held later in Mount Pleasant, SC and Rochester, NY. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Scott was born August 16, 1960, in Niagara Falls, NY, son of May Sawyer and Francis Sawyer. Husband of Spencer Stegall whom he shared 29 plus years together with in NY, NJ, and finally home in Mt Pleasant SC, where he resided for over 20 years. His one passion was to save and rescue cats and kittens and he had saved 5 of which 2 are still with us today. They were his kids. Scott is now a star that shines forever. He will always be in our hearts wherever we go. Talented in everything he achieved and a great mentor to others. A fun and great uncle to nephews, nieces, and great-nieces and nephews. He was always watching out for his siblings, Candace Sawyer, Diane McGinnis (Tom), Jeff Sawyer, Cheryl Barnes (Jerry), Randy Sawyer and family, Wayne Sawyer (Donna) and special family member, Mary Sawyer. As well as a special Non Blood Brother who was there with him for his entire journey, especially in the closing days, Bill Johnson.

He loved to cook and really CLEANED a lot, kind of compulsive and wanted perfection. He loved to dance. He danced right into everyone's heart. His most favorite in the world was Disney and Christmas Radko, they were his passion. He was the perfect son, uncle, brother and partner. He kept himself busy in the yard and in the home. Everyone is going to miss him and remember what he has done for himself and others.

Scott said these words: "You only have one opportunity to live, so…work like you would never need money, love like you have never been hurt, and dance like nobody was watching you!" He said, "I try to not dwell on the sad or what is outside my realm of control. I believe a person can create and maintain their own happiness, so I never let anyone hold my happiness in their hands. For quality-of-life purposes, I try to surround myself with only positive people and focus on the brighter side of life…life's too short to do it any other way."

We want to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at MUSC Mid-Town, MUSC Downtown, also the Doctors and Nurses at Mass General in Boston MA, Crescent Hospice and Comfort Keepers of Charleston.
