Steve Emerson Agan, 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Janell Terry Agan, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday morning September 24, 2025. His memorial service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel an hour before the service.
Steve was born January 30, 1948, in Alexandria, Louisiana, son of the late Emerson Berry Agan and the late Alsie McGuffee Agan. After receiving his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, he served churches in Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama and South Dakota. He served two Presbyterian PCU churches as their Minister for 12 and 18 years. He also had a lot of other jobs, but the one he enjoyed the most (other than pastoring) was being the Speech and Debate Coach for Lead High School. He will be remembered for the impacts he made in people’s lives as he shared the love of God with his life.
Family was very important to Steve. He always took very good care of his family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janell Terry Agan of Daniel Island, SC; two daughters, Jennifer Agan Lee and Lisa Catherine Shaw (Hill) all of Daniel Island, SC; and four grandchildren, Ryland H Shaw IV, Catherine Alyce Shaw, Emerson Grace Shaw and Sophia Grace Lee. He also leaves a step-son, David Burford and two step-granddaughters, Destini and Teralynn Burford of Charleston and Birmingham, AL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Lee.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice: Blood Cancer United (formerly Leukemia & Lymphoma Society), American Heart Association, The Alzheimer’s Association, or Lead Presbyterian Church, 12 Baltimore Street, Lead, SD 57754.
