Stephen Michael Thompson, 71, of Summerville, South Carolina, husband of Elizabeth Landrum Jenkins Thompson, entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 25, 2026. His Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Church of the Good Shepherd, located at Northbridge Baptist Church, 1160 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Charleston SC 29407.

Steve was born October 19, 1955, in Washington, DC, son of the late Edward Milton Thompson and Gladys May Marable Thompson.

Growing up in Maryland near Washington, DC, he was known for his active spirit, with a skillful passion for baseball (pitching) and basketball (point guard), as well as his kindness and leadership (Boys Club Boy of the Year). He later embraced tennis and was proud of his Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association championship trophy and the many friendships forged on Charleston area courts. After honing his skills as a stockbroker and institutional retirement plans consultant, he retired from a distinguished financial career with Hunter Michael Investment Advisors.

He loved his dogs, enjoying with them beautiful mornings at the beach and long walks along the Chattahoochee River and Bohicket Creek. He even tolerated two cats, and his training them to fetch tin foil balls resulted in mutual respect and appreciation. Steve adored his wife Liz with culinary delights and handwritten love letters throughout their 42- year marriage. He raised his sons with lovingly firm guidance, humor, joy, and a special fondness for Atlanta Braves baseball and Georgia Tech/College of Charleston basketball. Time with his grandchildren delighted him, and he teased that he’d see them as a new student in their grade at school or serve up chocolate covered ants for supper. He also treasured deep bonds with friends and extended family over sports, travel, business, and life’s many various seasons.

In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his sons, Edward Rivers Thompson ( Jennifer) of Charleston, SC, Benjamin Marable Thompson (Kelann); six grandchildren, Jane, Claire, Stephen, Daniel, Joseph, and Peter; sister, Terrie Brown (Art) of Sullivans Island, SC; brother, Edward Milton Thompson, Jr. (Barb) of Pinehurst, NC; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Church of the Good Shepherd, PO Box 30909, Charleston, SC 29417-0909. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel.
