Stephen Dennis Shelton, 73, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on September 1, 2026. Born June 18, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of the late James L. Shelton and Geraldine Jung Shelton.

Stephen was a devoted father and cherished grandfather, known for his unwavering faith, love of family, boundless energy, and zest for life.

Stephen lived his life in motion. Over the years, he was a water skier, motocross rider, racquetball player, volleyball player, mountain biker, and, most recently, devoted pickleball player. He rode through the marshes of Charleston, the trails of Northern California, and the levees of New Orleans. He loved music, he loved to dance, and he rarely needed convincing to get up and do it.

Stephen was an entrepreneur, builder, and lifelong learner. He studied engineering at Louisiana State University and built a career as a pioneer in the solar industry. In retirement, he organized his local pickleball group, cooked for volunteer organizations, and gave his time generously to his church and community.

Above all, Stephen was a man of deep faith who loved Jesus deeply and shared his testimony with anyone who would listen.

Stephen is survived by his four daughters and their husbands, Angelique and Brandon Moody, Melissa Shelton and Tyler Baker, Tiffany and Tyler Reese, and Heather Shelton and Darren Svedeman.

He was the adored “G-Dad” to eight grandchildren: Everly Moody, Emerson Moody, Elaina Reese, Eden Reese, Roen Baker, Lochlan Baker, Dylan Svedeman, and Riley Svedeman.

His daughters and grandchildren were, without question, his greatest pride and joy. He adored them, showed up for them, and somehow, despite being their grandfather, could still keep up with them.

Stephen is also survived by his sister, Anne Shelton, and brother, Jimmy Shelton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Barry Shelton.

There is something both heartbreaking and fitting in knowing that Stephen’s final day was spent doing something he loved—playing pickleball, surrounded by friends—after a life he would have told you himself was extraordinarily blessed.

He wanted for little and appreciated much. He loved his life. He loved his family. He loved music, movement, conversation, and being surrounded by people. And he would tell you, every single day, that LIFE IS GOOD.

Stephen’s service will be held Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at One Fellowship, 142 Sportsman Island Drive, Unit C, Charleston, SC 29492.
