Stephen Monroe Richards (Master Chief, U.S. Navy, Ret.), 81, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, husband of Sanna Elizabeth Bates Richards, died Thursday, December 10, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 21, 2015, in Northwood Church, 2600 North Main Street, at 12:00 noon. The family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in Northwood Church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.
Monroe was born April 7, 1934 in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late Stephen Monroe Richards and the late Berthern Weeks. He was a 22 year veteran of the U.S. Navy where he retired as a Master Chief. He went on to the Charleston Naval Shipyard after retirement where he continued working as a pipefitter. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Monroe was a member and elder at Northwood Assembly from 1973-2009 where he specialized in hospital ministry throughout the Lowcountry. He was also a member of Reality Church in Goose Creek where he continued to do the Lord's work.
In addition to his wife, Sanna, he is survived by son, Steve Richards (Pamela) of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Sandy Hudson (Travis) of Goose Creek; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters; and Debra Mattson of RI, a special person whom he loved as a daughter.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
