Steve was born in Greenville, SC to William Barnwell Heyward and Martha Ann Morris Heyward. He was married to Janet Lynn Bushmiaer Heyward on March 30, 1985 in Nashville, TN. He attended Christ Church Episcopal Church School and the University of South Carolina. Steve was the president of Heyward Builders LLC and the Bulls Bay Bed Swing Company. He was a member and served on the board of the Trident Homebuilders Association and the East Cooper Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of St. Peters Anglican Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, William B. Heyward and Martha Ann Heyward of Greenville, SC. Steve is survived by his wife of 39 years Janet Heyward, his son Stephen Elliott Heyward, Jr. (Mallori), his daughter Kathryn Lynn Heyward, his siblings William Barnwell Heyward, Jr. (Tricia), Charles Lee Heyward (Terry), Millie Heyward Reed (Jim), and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and very close lifelong friends.
Steve was a mighty man of God, a true Promise Keeper. He loved his Lord, his wife, his children and their many friends, his family, his friends and all people. One of his greatest joys was the happiness people had when he built them a beautiful home or renovated a home. He was so looking forward to getting better so he could renovate the red barn at church used by our church family. He loved his boat, Wrightsville Beach, and the many hours spent with family and friends on the water.
The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff who helped him fight this awful disease, especially the Hematology/Oncology team at MUSC and the Hollings Cancer Center BMT and Infusion team. Memorials can be made to Saint Peter’s Anglican Church building fund or to East Cooper Habitat for Humanity.
