Reverend Stanley "Stan" Warren Stone, 58, husband of Nancy Fagerstrom Stone of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. The relatives and friends of Reverend Stan Stone are invited to attend a Celebration of His Life on Saturday, March 10, 2012 in the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant (Main Sanctuary) at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. The family will receive friends in the Christian Life Center of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
Stan was born on July 7, 1953 in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Bobby Ray Stone and the late Syble Davidson Stone. He attended Charleston Southern University and received his Master of Arts in Christian Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a minister at First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and, through a shared position, was Interim Pastor at Sullivan's Island Baptist Church. Stan began his ministry at First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, then went on to serve at Citadel Square Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Gallatin, TN, Ocean View Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, SC where he served in ministry to youth. Eventually he returned to First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and Sullivan's Island Baptist Church, serving in the areas of youth, family ministry, and preaching. He was a former member of The Committee of Committees with the Baptist Association, and helped with establishing the youth ministry programs at Charleston Southern University and supported its ongoing growth. A former board member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he was, early on, a part of Young Life. Stan was deeply committed to serving others and helped with mission trips to Costa Rica and Guatemala and served with disaster relief programs, especially after Hurricanes Hugo and Katrina. In his spare time, Stan enjoyed being outdoors fishing, surfing, camping, scuba diving, snow skiing, and exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains. Stan will be remembered as one dedicated to his God and family. He possessed a servant's heart, meeting others at their place of greatest need, comforting, caring, and ministering to anyone who turned to him.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Stone of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his father and step-mother, Bobby and Terry Stone of Alto, GA; three children, Peter Stone, Christopher Stone and Callie Stone all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one sister, Doris Stone Carr and her husband, Lands, of Panama City, FL.
The family prefers memorials in Stan's memory be made to Sullivan's Island Baptist Church, 1753 Central Avenue, Sullivans Island, SC 29482.
