Stanley Milton Hoffman, aged 88, died February 8, 2022. He was born in Charleston on December 8, 1933 to Arthur Milton Hoffman of Elmira, NY, and Mildred Mabel Powell of Fuquay Springs, NC. As a youth, Stanley participated in Golden Gloves, was a member of the Boy Scouts, and attended Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim. He graduated from Rivers High School and studied at the University of South Carolina before working briefly for the Charleston County Health Department. Stanley served as a public health sanitarian for the New York City Health Department for over twenty years, retiring as a supervisor in 1993. Stanley cared passionately about public health and had many stories to tell about his experiences inspecting restaurants and hotels during his career. He also loved boxing, classic movies, and reading. Stanley was introspective, witty, and had a bright smile.
Stanley is survived by his daughter English Hosay and son-in-law Andrew of Mechanicsville, VA; son Terry Hoffman and daughter-in-law Amanda Holling of Charleston; and two grandchildren, Liliah Carter and Susannah Hosay. He will be buried near his parents at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr West Ashley Chapel. Services will be private.
