Sooknanan Bachan

January 7, 1944 — December 14, 2010

On December 14, 2010, Sooknanan (Sookie) Bachan entered into heavenly rest.  The cause of death was cancer.  He was survived by his wife, Sylvia Bachan of 47 years.  He has four children Winston Bachan (spouse Lisa Bachan), Pamela Mercado, Sandra Terrell (spouse Dale Terrell) and Selwyn Bachan currently serving in Iraq.  Mr. Bachan has one surviving sister, Mrs. Ena Samuel of Trinidad and Tobago and one niece Mrs. Indranie Hargobin of Fort Lauderdale, FL.  His grandchildren are Natasha Futrell (spouse Andrew Futrell), Steven Mercado, Sabrina Bachan, Jennifer Bachan, Victoria Bachan, Bryan Ramatoola and Ashley Terrell and one great grandchild, Rebekkah Richardson.  Other relatives reside in Trinidad. 


Mr. Bachan was born on January 7, 1944 in Couva, in the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Trinidad and then a member of the International Church of God in West Ashley.  The son of Derha and Bissoondaye, he was a Rotary Club member and enjoyed the game of Cricket.


The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service, Friday, December 17, 2010 at 11:00 am in the International Church of God. Burial to follow in Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Thursday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.


In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406 and or to the International Church of God, 1560 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29407. Memorials may be made in memory of Sooknanan Bachan.
