Sonja Lahmeyer Baxley

November 16, 1938 — June 16, 2010

Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of June 16, 2010, Sonja Lahmeyer Baxley, wife of Don W. Baxley.  Residence, James Island, SC.  The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Don W. Baxley are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at ten-thirty o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery.  Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel Friday between five and seven o'clock.


Sonja was born November 16, 1938 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Archie S. J. Lahmeyer and Dorothy Petit Lahmeyer. She was a 1956 graduate of Rivers High School and a member of St. Barnabas Lutheran Church.  She retired as Playground Director with the City of Charleston, serving Hampton Park, Stono Park, Corrine Jones Park and East Bay Park. She was a Y-Teen counselor for four years, she won the State Champion Ping Pong Tournament, she was Miss C & S Bank and Miss American Legion.


She is survived by her husband of James Island, SC; one daughter: Cissy B. Bonifay and her husband Walter of James Island, SC; two sons: Don W. Baxley, Jr. and his wife Karen of Lancaster, SC and Todd Baxley and his wife Kathy of James Island, SC; four grandchildren: Chandler L. Baxley, Bailey E. Baxley, Trent B. Bonifay and Bryant N. Stuart; one sister: Sharon L. Hall of Atlanta, GA; two brothers: Wayne D. Lahmeyer of Ashboro, NC and Carl D. Lahmeyer of Wando, SC. She is predeceased by her brother Archie Lahmeyer.
