Sonia Mathile Gatter Hoover, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of John A. Hoover, Sr., died Friday, May 3, 2019. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 604 Pitt Street, at 4:00 pm, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 pm until time of the service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.

Sonia was born March 24, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Herman Leo Gatter and the late Elsie Kugel Gatter. She was a retired kindergarten teacher and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sons, Michael N. Hoover of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Bruce G. Hoover and his wife Janet of Bloxom, VA; her daughter, Carol H. Balabushka and her husband George of Wadmalaw, SC; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, John A. Hoover, Jr. and his 3 year old daughter Laura Lee; her son Steven C. Hoover; and her brothers, twin brother Hank and brother Carl.
