Smsgt. George A. Whaley

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 11, 2010, George A. Whaley, husband of Peggy Booze Whaley.  Residence, Charleston, South Carolina.  The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Whaley are invited to attend his funeral service at Ashley River Baptist Church this Monday morning, June 14, 2010, at eleven o'clock.  Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.  The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel this Sunday evening from five until seven o'clock. 


Mr. Whaley was born on July 13, 1929, in Fairbluff, NC, a son of the late Charles T. Whaley and Lula Belle Thomas Whaley.  He was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church where he served on the Pastor's Search Committee, was a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacons for many years.  He previously taught the Robert W. Major Men's Sunday school class and was the Past Director of the Ashley River Baptist Church Senior Citizens Group and served on various other committees over the years.  Mr. Whaley retired from the US Air Force after serving for 23 years and also from Trident Technical College as a counselor and from the SC State Probation and Parole Board.


Mr. Whaley is preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Strobel Whaley.  Surviving are his wife Peggy B. Whaley of Charleston; a daughter, Susan Miles and her husband, John of Charleston; a step-daughter, Alice Reeves Botts and her husband, Joe of Sullivans Island, SC, a step-son; Keith Channing Reeves and his wife, Wendy of Beaufort, SC., a brother, Hubert James Whaley and his wife Kathyrn, of Charleston, SC, and five step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
