Sidney Grover Ballentine, Jr., 88, husband of the late Ouida McConaughey Ballentine of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011.
The relatives and friends of Sidney Ballentine, Jr. are invited to attend his funeral services on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at J. Henry Stuhr, Mt. Pleasant Chapel.
Sidney was born September 24, 1922 in Summerville, SC, son of the late Sidney Grover Ballentine, Sr. and Mazie Clarke Ballentine. He was the owner and founder of East Cooper Paint and Body Shop and had served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, SC and his favorite pastimes were woodworking, furniture making and gardening.
He is survived by his son, Stephen G. Ballentine and his wife, Cathy of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandson, Joseph Martin Ballentine of Mt. Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Sidney Ballentine Siikala of Fort Worth, TX; step-grandsons, Marc Brandon Gaskins and Stephen Clint Gaskins, both of Charleston, SC; sisters, Helen Austin of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Dorothy Boltin of North Charleston, SC and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ouida Ballentine.
