Shirley Grooms Woods

Shirley Grooms Woods, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Howard Hilton Woods entered into eternal rest Friday, October 12, 2018. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 13, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018 in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.

Shirley was born June 23, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of the late Morgan Nelson Grooms and Ida Eadie Grooms. She graduated from Rice Business College. Shirley was a cafeteria worker with James Island Middle School, Telephone Operator with Southern Bell and manager of Anne's Dress Shop. Shirley's favorite job was raising her family and creating a home filled with love.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard Hilton Woods; three sons, Michael D. Woods (Sarah), Scott Woods (Sandi) and Timothy A.S. Woods (Lily) all of James Island, SC; daughter, Valentina "Tina" Woods Bair (Thomas) of Meggett, SC; seven grandchildren, Laura, Ashley, Shannon, Paige, Olivia, Jason, and Alaina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Jessie Mae Galster and Clesie J. Halligan.

Today, the world is a little darker place, and Heaven a little brighter!
