Shirley Hubbard Seay

Shirley Hubbard Seay, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of James A. Seay, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 15, 2022. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 1157 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407. A private burial will be held at Live Oak Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

Shirley was born December 6, 1935 in Mullins, South Carolina, daughter of the late Jerrelle Byrd Hubbard and Hazel Webster. Shirley received her bachelor's degree in education at Furman University, and later received her master's degree in education at the College of Charleston. She was a former member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority and of the Charleston Singers Guild. Shirley served as an educator with Charleston County Public Schools for over 20 years. She was also named Teacher of the Year at Orange Grove Elementary. At Westminster Presbyterian Church, she served as Director of the Church Preschool for 7 years, and as Director of the Sanctuary Choir for 20 years. Additionally, she served as an elder in the church and as team leader of the Senior Adult Ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church for 20 years.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, Shirley is survived by her son, Robert A. Seay (Ronda), and grandchildren, Chloe S. Seay, Matilda E. Seay and Elsie H. Seay. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Jerry Seay.
