Shirley Byrd McKagen, 83, of James Island, South Carolina, widow of Eldon Dixon McKagen, Jr. entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 27, 2013. Her funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Bethany United Methodist Church, 1853 Maybank Hwy., at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday in the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Shirley was born December 19, 1929 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of Douglas Jennings Byrd and Lois Adelaide Brown Byrd. Shirley was a cheerleader at the High School of Charleston. She graduated from Memminger High School in 1946. She was a member of the Bay Jets Fabulous Forty Bowling League, Fancy Free Cloggers, the "Owlets", Memminger Girls and Ya Ya Sisterhood. Shirley belonged to Bethany United Methodist Church where she was very active in the church circle and her bridge club.
Shirley lived 40 days after her beloved husband, Eldon, died. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon M. Rush (Ronnie) of Johns Island, SC and Donna M. Reynolds (Bill) of Charleston, SC; son, Glenn Eldon McKagen of James Island, SC; nine grandchildren, Ronnie, Julie, Jill, Michael, Steven, Scott, Megan, Christie and Dawn and four great grandchildren.
