Shirley Morgan McElhenney

Shirley Morgan McElhenney, 78, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Robert L. McElhenney, Jr. went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 23, 2018. She had spent the last 13 years dealing with cancer and heart problems. Not one time did I ever hear her complain. She just kept thanking the Lord for the wonderful things he had done for her. One of her friends had made the statement that she was going to be a tough act to follow.

Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 26, 2018 in the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.

Shirley was born August 7, 1940 in Sumter, South Carolina, daughter of the late Erman Chancy Morgan and the late Sally Bernice Glisson Morgan. Her family moved to the Park Circle area in North Charleston when she was two. she attended North Charleston graded and high school, from 1965 until 1997, she lived on the Isle of Palms. She worked for South Carolina National Bank and Wachovia Bank on Coleman Avenue in Mt. Pleasant as a teller and customer service representative. In 1999 they moved to Sunset, SC and then in 2011, moved back to the Charleston area of Mt. Pleasant, because of health problems. Shirley was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Sunset, SC and attended Sunday School at the First Baptist Church on McCants Street in Mt. Pleasant.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. "Buddy" McElhenney, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Jerri McElhenney Babson (Jerry) of Mount Pleasant, SC; two sons, Steve Ernest McElhenney (Susan) of Huger, SC and Robert Glenn McElhenney of Mount Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Amanda Renee Babson Lowther (Chris), Jeremy Dale Babson (Laney), Robert Hyatt McElheeney, Tyler James McElhenney and Madison Morgan McElhenney; great grandchildren, Rylee Ann Lowther, Copelyn Bency Lowther, Brooklyn Paige Babson, Finley Grace Lenton Badson and Fischer Cowden; two sisters, Pat Bernice Morgan Mellard (Raymon) of Sunset, SC and Kathy Marie Hurst (Kenneth) of Walterboro, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Erman Muldrew Morgan, Laura Elizabeth Morgan Ledford (Lavern) and Gloria Ann Morgan.
