Shirley Smyly Lawhon, 81, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, wife of Clayton Lawhon died Tuesday, February 23, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 in the First United Methodist Church, 12 21st Avenue, Isle of Palms at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the Smyly Family Cemetery, Ruffin, SC at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends Friday, February 26, 2016 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
Shirley was born January 11, 1935 in Ruffin, South Carolina, daughter of the late Charlie Steven Smyly and the late Phoebie Key Williams Smyly. She worked as an administrative assistant with J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home. She was also the President for the Isle of Palms Garden Club, member of the National Garden Club, served as a judge for many flower shows and won many awards for her flower show entries. Shirley loved to cook, taking care of her family and was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Isle of Palms.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Clayton Lawhon of Isle of Palms, SC; two daughters, Debbie (John) Jackson of Awendaw, SC and Rhonda (Johnny) Cooper of Awendaw, SC; four step-sons, Dennis (Katherine) Lawhon of Summerville, SC, Rick (Gina) Lawhon of James Island, SC, Larry Lawhon of Stephens City, VA and Glenn Lawhon of Charleston, SC; her sister, Lenora S. Keegan of Ruffin, SC; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
