Shirley Johnson Holcombe, 94, of Charleston, SC, wife of Edward P. Holcombe III, entered into eternal rest Thursday, December 29, 2016. Her funeral service will be held Monday, January 2, 2017, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, at 2:00 p.m. Entombment, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel one hour prior to the service.
Shirley was born December 18, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Albert Johnson and Dorothy Eby Johnson. She led a full, active life. After graduating from Summerville High School, she attended Newberry College and was always active in the community. She enjoyed playing bridge as well as working with garden clubs. Shirley was a past president of The Council of Garden Clubs of Greater Charleston and past chairman of the Charleston County School Board. She was involved in church activities, enjoyed singing in the choir and was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church. Shirley will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Sharon H. Rogers (Ralph) of Charleston, SC, and Nancy H. Falciani (Steve) of Folly Beach, SC; son, Edward "Ned" P. Holcombe IV (Carolyn) of Powder Spring, GA; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Johnson Goodman; granddaughters, Ashley Holcombe, and Tara Rogers Bright; and grandson, Scott Rogers.
