Shirley Constance Glaze

August 11, 1935 — December 8, 2010

Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of December 8, 2010, Shirley Constance Bishop Glaze, beloved wife of Glenn Aaron Glaze.  The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Glaze are invited to attend her funeral service Monday, December 13, 2010 at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL at 2p.m. Burial will be private. There will be a gathering of family and friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m.


Mrs. Glaze was born August 11, 1935 in Bromley, County of Kent, England. She was the daughter of the late Harold Victor Bishop and the late Eva Elizabeth Miller Bishop.  Shirley was a trained tailor, receiving her education at the Woolwich Polytechnic in London, England.  Upon graduation she was hired by London fashion house Digby Morton's and there she worked on the coronation robes of Queen Elizabeth II. She was to enjoy sewing and needlework for the rest of her life.


Following her marriage to Airmen First Class Glenn Glaze in October 1956, Mrs. Glaze supported her husband and family through 20 years of military postings throughout the United States and England.  Upon her husband's retirement from the USAF, Mrs. Glaze managed the Roper Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop where she touched the lives of people for over 20 years. Upon her retirement from Roper Hospital, Mrs. Glaze became an active member of the British Wives Club, was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, and member of the Sue Knight Sunday School Class.


A loving wife, mother, and devoted grandmother, she is survived by her husband Glenn of Summerville; a son, Christopher Glaze and his wife Rebecca Tanner; a daughter, Amanda Suggs, and her husband David Suggs; sister, Margaret Dunk and her husband Maurice of Horncastle, Lincolnshire, England; five grandchildren, Kathryn Glaze Thompson (Jake), Erin Glaze, Constance Suggs Watters (Phil), Emma Glaze, and Brian Suggs; and a great granddaughter, Emma Kate Thompson.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406
