Shirley E. Faciane 27 Dec 1924 - 18 Aug 2010 85 years old. North Charleston, SC -
We have lost a great Lady and woman of Christ-like virtue today, Shirley E. Faciane slipped peacefully through the veil of this earthly existence surrounded by her family and friends. She fought a brave battle against Rheumatoid Arthritis and Myleo Dysplastic Syndrome (Luekemia). She bore her pain with grace and dignity and without complaint.
Born in Waycross, GA she was the daughter of the late William Kirby and Elgia Henderson. Shirley was a waitress for most of her working career. She also worked for the Election Commission of SC during political campaigns. She was called to be a Temple worker with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Columbia, SC. She was a member of the Order of the Confederate Rose, the Ladies Auxiliary Organization and a member of the Friends of the Hunley.
We were so blessed and proud to say she was our mother. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to: her son, Paul J. Allen, Sr. and wife, Sylvia; daughters, Joy Lynn Osborne and her husband Robert Laverne Osborne and Sherelyn Gay Cureton and husband Earl W. Cureton; grandchildren: Sherelyn Hanks, Rochelle Hanks Stephen Hanks, Joseph Hanks, Daniel Cureton, Paul J. Allen, Jr., and Julia Hamm; great-grandchildren: Billy Allen, Kiley Grace Allen, Nicole, Justin, Jaiden and Cooper Hamm, Megan and Timothy Byrd, Emily and Jacob Osborne; step-grandson Joe Leopold, Jr.; and step great-granddaughter, Courtney Leopold and a loving caring friend to a multitude of family members and friends who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice and two sons, Charles W. Allen and Wade Lathem Allen.
She had a great love for South Georgia and South Carolina. She loved life and was an inspiration to all that knew and loved her. Shirley loved her family with exuberant pride and loyalty. She was a shining star, her mortal memory will continue to inspire all that knew her to fight for truth and justice, to love and forgive, to always see the good in life and others and always keep the faith in our heavenly Father.
The funeral service will be held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
