Shirley Mizell Carney

Shirley Mizell Carney, 79, of Charleston, SC, wife of James W. Carney entered into eternal rest Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 in Folly Beach United Methodist Church, 118 W. Indian Avenue at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road. The family will receive friends, Friday, May 8, 2015 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Shirley was born October 24, 1935 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Quitman E. Mizell and Rosalee Crawford Mizell and was predeceased by a sister Eleanor. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 147 and Folly Beach United Methodist Church.Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and cherished friend to all.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James W. Carney of Charleston, SC; two sons, Curtis F. Carney of Charleston, SC, Greg Q. Carney and his wife Carmen of Eutawville, SC; two sisters, Lottie Mickalis of Summerville, SC; Virginia Valentine of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Christopher Carney and his wife Patricia, Austin Carney, Brittney Carney, Courtney Carney, Shelby Mae Carney; two great-grand-children, Cason and Cooper Carney.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Austin Ball and his staff along with the wonderful caregivers from Piedmont Hospice.
