SFC George Richard Drakeford, US Army (Ret.), 81, of Moncks Corner, SC, husband of Eva Louise Williams Drakeford, entered into eternal rest Saturday, October 13, 2012. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2012, in Quaker Cemetery, 713 Meeting Street, Camden, SC at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Sgt. Drakeford was born January 10, 1931 in Camden, South Carolina, a son of the late Joseph Keith Drakeford and Elizabeth Truesdell Drakeford. He was a U.S. Army retired Sgt. First Class, having served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a mason and a life member of VFW Post 3142. He also retired from U.S. Filter Distribution.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Eva Drakeford of Moncks Corner; sister-in-law, Louise White Kimbrell of Sumter, SC, step-children, Gene Hiott of Goose Creek, Gary Hiott (Claudia) of Ladson and Dianne Taylor of Summerville; son-in-law, Richard D. Weaver of Corydon, IN: grandchildren, Richard Dana Weaver (Amanda) of Georgetown, IN and Michael Drakeford Stapleton (Barbara) of Topeka, KS; step-grandson, Sam Hiott (Jamie) of Moncks Corner; great-grandchildren, Olivia Eyre-Weaver, Connor Stapleton and Corrine Stapleton; step-great-grandchildren, Coty Hiott, Tyler Hiott and Hailey Hiott; niece, Diane McKenzie (Scott) of Isle of Palms; and nephews, Butch Drakeford (Rosemary) and Michael Drakeford (Diane), all of Sumter, SC. He was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth "Lizette" Weaver and a brother, Cecil Drakeford.
