Selina Parker Stoddard Hopkins, 97, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Justin Amesbury Hopkins, entered into eternal rest Saturday, January 19, 2013. A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunnington Street at 11:00 am. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Mrs. Hopkins was born November 16, 1915 in Owings, South Carolina, daughter of Lander Boyd Stoddard and Selina Parker Roberts Stoddard. She earned her Bachelors Degree from Furman University and her Masters Degree from Peabody College. She retired as a librarian at the Charleston County Library. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of Daughters of American Colonists, The Huguenot Society of South Carolina, and St. Paul's Church in Summerville, SC.
She is survived by her three daughters: Selina Hopkins Hathaway (Wade) of Summerville, SC, Susan Hopkins Sims (Algie) of Charlotte, NC, and Alice Janet Hopkins (the late Ted Phillips, Jr.) of Charleston, SC; her son, Justin Alan Hopkins (Jane Charles) of Charleston, SC; her two brothers: Harry O. Stoddard of Kershaw, SC and Eugene C. Stoddard of Fountain Inn, SC; nine grandchildren: Paige Hathaway Thorn (Robert) of Charleston, SC, Wade Hathaway III (Lesley) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Anna Sims Caldwell (Preston) of Charlotte, NC, Mollie Sims Lee (Thomas) of Columbia, SC, Algie Sims (Susan) of Fort Mill, SC, Alice Phillips of Charleston, SC, Sarah Phillips of Charleston, SC, Rebecca Hopkins of Charleston, SC, and Louisa Hopkins of Charleston, SC; and seven great-grandchildren: Amelia Hathaway of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Will Hathaway of Mt. Pleasant, SC, John Hathaway of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Selina Thorn of Charleston, SC, Eliza Thorn of Charleston, SC, Carolina Caldwell of Charlotte, NC, and Robert Caldwell of Charlotte, NC.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carolina S. (Mrs. Frank L. Sr.) Culbertson of Holly Hill, SC; her brothers, Robert L. Stoddard of Spartanburg, SC, L. Boyd Stoddard, Jr. of Gray Court, SC, Charles E. Stoddard of Gray Court, SC and a son-in-law, Ted A. Phillips.
