Scott Alden Reed

Scott Alden Reed was born December 18, 1954 in Key West, Florida and entered eternal rest on November 1st, 2018 in Johns Island, South Carolina. As a Navy Junior, the family moved frequently. He particularly enjoyed the three years they spent in Naples, Italy where the family traveled extensively throughout Europe. He graduated from Floyd Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia and shortly thereafter joined the US Army. While in the Army, he was stationed at a listening post in Sinop, Turkey on the Russian border and on the DMZ between North and South Korea. After leaving the Army, he attended Old Dominion University and obtained a bachelor's degree in computer science. This was his ticket to a brilliant career that started with Singer and ended with more than 30 years of service as a program manager supporting space and defense programs at Boeing. His career took him from Washington state to Texas to the Australian Outback and finally to Denver, Colorado.

He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Other than his family, his greatest love was his black labs – Cajun, Hunter and Shady. Two years ago he retired and moved to Johns Island to be close to his eldest daughter and grandson.

Though he missed the mountains, he loved being by the ocean. Everything finally fell in place when his youngest daughter joined him to complete college. That is when South Carolina truly became home.

He is survived by his loving companion Nina "Stormy" Moore, his two daughters, Stephanie "NOD" Michelle DeRosa and husband Steve; Alexis "Flyer" Christine Reed, and his beloved grandson Dominic Anthony DeRosa. He is also survived by his two older brothers Lt. Col. John Ward Reed Jr., USMC, ret. (Patricia), Richard Emerson Reed (Laura) and his sister Barbara Reed Mitchell.

Scott was a proud American and a great patriot and was thankful for the time he spent serving his country's interest both in the Army and at Boeing. He was the baby of the Reed family and his great sense of humor, kindness, love and generous spirit will be missed by all his family including his five nieces and nephews Meredith, Allison, John, Will and Rebecca.

He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Dyer Reed, his father Captain John Ward Reed, USN, ret. and his nephew David Matthew Mitchell.

We, who are left with his wonderful memory will miss him but rejoice that he is free from stress and suffering and with the angels.

A memorial service will be held Saturday November 10th at 1:00 pm at the J Henry Stuhr Chapel in Charleston on 232 Calhoun Street. Please join us after the service at 3:00 pm for a reception at High Cotton (French Quarter Room) in Charleston on 199 East Bay Street.
