Scott Harvin Babson, 83, of Goose Creek, SC died on July 16, 2012 in a local hospital.
Born October 26, 1928 in Manning, SC; he was the son of Horace Lee Babson and Cureth Gantt Babson. He graduated from Chicora High School where he played football for the Cooper River Blue Devils and lettered for three years. He participated in the Shrine Bowl and in 1947 the team won the state football championship. As state champs the team also beat the state champion teams from both Georgia and North Carolina. He served in the US Naval Reserve. Scott retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for Westvaco. He was a member of Summerville Masonic Lodge 234; served as president of the Ladson Republican Party for ten years; coached Dixie Youth baseball; was a member of the American Legion Post 116; and a lifetime member of the IBEW.
The funeral service will be held at Crowfield Baptist Church, Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10:00 am. Entombment with military honors, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road Wednesday, July 18, 2012 between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
Scott is survived by his three sons: Scott H. Babson Jr. (Sharon) and Bernard W. Babson all of Goose Creek, SC, David L. Babson (Charlotte) of Hanahan, SC; brother, Robert "Bobby" J. Babson of Charleston, SC; five grandsons: Christopher Babson, Craig Babson ( Casey), Cameron Babson (Ashley), David L. Babson Jr. and Kenneth Babson; three granddaughters: Kerri Giles, Amber Foiles (Robert) and Amy Rodgers (Joe); five Great-Grandchildren: Kaydence Tanner, Addison Giles, Savannah Foiles, Joshua Babson and Liam Babson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Louise Meyer Babson and brother, Horace L Babson.
