Mrs. Jones was born December 1, 1927 in Leesburg, FL, the daughter of William Roy Hood and Virginia Bailey MacKenzie Hood.  After an early childhood in Florida, "Baidie" as she was known to family members because her young brother couldn't pronounce Sarah Bailey, moved with the family to Charleston where she graduated from Memminger High School and the College of Charleston, class of 1949.  She went on to work in civil service and as a teacher at Rice Business College, and in 1974 she became the first woman in South Carolina to serve as an inspector with the U. S. Customs Service, following in the footsteps of her father who had been the Chief Inspector of Customs in Charleston during the 1950s.  She retired in 1995. She loved animals, especially horses and dogs, always having at least one dog around and usually more. She was an accomplished singer, having considered a career in opera as a young woman. She was a lifelong Episcopalian, serving throughout her life as a faithful church, choir and vestry member and supporter. Her strong faith in God and life of prayer inspired many. Most of all she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all whose lives she touched by her encouragement and loving kindness.

She was pre-deceased by her first husband Marion B. "Tommy" Seithel, and is survived by her husband; her two sons, Gary Brian Seithel (Penny) of London, England and David Lawrence Seithel (Donna) of Charleston; five stepchildren, Debra Jones Puckett (Darrell) of Montgomery, AL, Tommy Derek Jones (Denise) of Roanoke, VA, , Susan Diane Jones,  Russell Darren Jones (Mitsy)  and Steven Douglas Jones, both of Moncks Corner; a brother, Col. William M. Hood (Ret) of Atlanta, GA and 16 grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 1915 Pinopolis Rd, Pinopolis, SC 29469.
