Sarah Byrd Briley, 93, wife of the late Alvin J. Briley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2023, surrounded by her family in her home in Mt. Pleasant.
Sarah was born in Charleston, the daughter of the late Rebecca Simmons Byrd and Thomas Oliver Byrd. She graduated from Moultrie High School where she was a cheerleader and played basketball. Sarah later attended Palmer College in downtown Charleston. She was an avid sports fan and an ardent supporter of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.
Sarah worked for 40+ years as an employee of the Charleston Naval Shipyard, the Charleston Army Depot, and Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda M. Briley of Columbia, her son, A. Joseph Briley of Mt. Pleasant, a grandson, Walker D. Briley of Charlotte, NC, and a sister, June B. Bowen of Seneca, SC.
Friends and family may call at the J. Henry Stuhr., Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm followed by visitation until 8:00 pm.
Family and friends are also invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant at 11:00 am, followed by burial in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant.
