Sarah Elizabeth Abernathy Apter, 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of Charles David Apter, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 in the Rodenberg Chapel at Franke at Seaside, 1885 Rifle Range Road, at 1:30 p.m. Entombment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Abbie was born in Greer, South Carolina and moved as an infant with her family to Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. She attended public schools and participated in sports including cheerleading. She attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and also Rider College in Lawrence Township, New Jersey.On December 29, 1951, she married her husband of 62 years, Charles David Apter and they lived in Seaford, DE; Richmond, VA; and Wilmington, DE; before moving to and retiring in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
She is survived by her three sons and one daughter: William Carl Apter of Raleigh, NC, Richard Charles Apter of Lanham, MD, Rebecca Ann Apter of Dunwoody, GA and Thomas David Apter of Newnan, GA; and three grandchildren, Charles Gordon Apter, Joshua David Apter and Abigail Caroline Apter. She is also survived by a sister, Aleph Abernathy Woolfolk of Newark, DE.
Abbie was active in the Ladies Golf Association at Snee Farm Country Club and the Creekside Garden Club. She was a long time member of Hibben United Methodist Church where she spent tireless hours improving the horticultural appearance of the church gardens.
