Sara Clark Vardell

February 20, 1923 — December 10, 2012

Sara Clark Vardell, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of William G. "Bee" Vardell, Jr. entered into eternal rest Monday, December 10, 2012. Her funeral service will be held at the graveside in St. Paul's Episcopal Churchyard, Summerville, SC Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Sara was born February 20, 1923 in Cope, South Carolina, daughter of Edward Winfield Clark and Annie Laurie Kirkland Clark. Mrs. Vardell graduated from Limestone College and was formerly employed by Westvaco as a research chemist. She was a member of the Ladies Benevolent Society, served as both a member and as a past Treasurer of the Garden Club of Charleston, member of the Old Maids, and a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church. In her early days she played violin with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and performed in numerous plays with the Footlight Players.

She was preceded in death by her brother William Edward Clark; her sisters, Mary Clark Shecut, Laurie Clark Bryant and Aubrey Clark Godowns . She is survived by her daughters, Laura Nowell Vardell and Sara "Sally" Gadsden Vardell; sister, Jeanne Clark Rast of St. Matthew's, SC; sister, Jessie Clark Rast and brother-in-law James DantzlerRast of Cameron, SC; Sisters-in-law Margaret Vardell Ritter of Rock Hill, SC and Mrs. Henry (Marie) Vardell of Bradenton, FL; Twenty nieces and nephews and their families.

Memorials may be made to Agape Hospice, 9301 Medical Plaza Drive, North Charleston, SC 29406 or to the charity of one's choice.
