Sara Moylan Clarke Schack, 93, widow of Dr. Jerome Arthur Schack, entered into eternal rest in Charleston, South Carolina, on September 17, 2026. Her graveside funeral service will be held at Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro, South Carolina, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 12 noon.

Sara was born on May 16, 1933, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to John Carroll Moylan and Geneva Mathews Moylan. She was raised in Walterboro, where she graduated from high school. Sara later graduated from Marjorie Webster College in Washington, D.C., and taught at The Birch Wathen School in Manhattan. The late Reverend Philip A.C. Clarke was the father of her four children. As a pastor’s wife and an active member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church for more than thirty years, Sara was an integral part of the church’s life and activities. Sara married Jerome Schack in 1985. Jerome and Sara spent many happy years between Manhattan, Hilton Head and Charleston. Following Jerome’s death, Sara settled permanently in Charleston in 2018.

She will be remembered for her legendary quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and the fun and laughter she brought wherever she went. She had a remarkable ability to entertain those around her with a clever line or story, and her warmth and spirited personality made time spent with her memorable.

Above all, Sara loved her family deeply. Her children and grandchildren were a great source of love, pride, and happiness throughout her life. She treasured the time she spent with them, and the laughter, love, and joy she shared with her family will remain an enduring part of her legacy.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Dr. Jerome Schack, Sara was preceded in death by her daughter, Catherine Moylan Clarke, and her sons, David Cadman Clarke (Susan) and Jonathan Clarke. She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Mathews Chakeris (John); grandchildren Sara Chakeris, John Chakeris, Emma Clarke, Mathew Clarke, and John Clarke; numerous nieces and nephews; close friends Louise "Alice" Dandy and Sylvia Wine; and her beloved dog, Bunny.

Her family extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the entire staff of Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community for the love and care they gave Sara.
