Sara "Sally" H. DuGene, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, formerly of Michigan City, Indiana, died Sunday, February 16, 2014.
She was born July 7, 1925, in Bellevue, Ohio, the daughter of Marjorie and Gaylord Huston.
She earned her bachelor's degree in business from Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was the president of her sorority and the pianist for the university's orchestra. After a career in business in Cleveland, she and her husband, Jack Mahan, moved to Bloomville, Ohio, where they owned a hardware store and she taught business education at the local high school. She loved music and played the piano and sang in several church choirs. For the last several years of her life, she was lovingly cared for at Franke at Seaside in Mt. Pleasant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert DuGene; and her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Dale Campbell. She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen (Dr. James) Engle, of Mt. Pleasant; Frederick (Sally) Mahan of Bluffton, SC; Jinny (Donald) Przybylinski, of Michigan City, IN; and Dr. Michael (Tina) Mahan, of Black River Falls, WI; grandchildren Max Engle, of Mt. Pleasant; Jay Vornhagen, of Seattle; Kendra (John) Meyer, of Fishers, IN; Matthew Mahan, of Indianapolis; Maryellen Przybylinski, of Royal Oak, Mich.; Joey Przybylinski, of Indianapolis; Oliver (Katrina) Mahan and Sidney Mahan, of Madison, WI; and Huston Mahan, of La Crosse, WI.; and great-grandchildren Sydney and Max Meyer, both of Fishers, IN.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 20, at Franke at Seaside, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
