Sara Richbourg Bryan, 90, widow of James C. (Jimmy) Bryan, died in Mt. Pleasant, SC on Friday, February 4, 2011. The family and friends of Sara are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3600 Devine St., Columbia, SC. Visitation will be at the St. Joseph Family Center following the service. A private graveside service for the family will be held at a later date. Mrs. Bryan, born on March 27, 1920 in Florence, SC, was the daughter of the late Bennie Fladger Richbourg and Sadie Hunter Richbourg. She was preceded in death by her son, James C. (Jim) Bryan, Jr.; and brothers, Bennie Fladger Jr. and James Hunter Richbourg. Sara graduated from Summerton High School, was a former Miss Summerton and attended Columbia College. She and Jimmy were married in Charleston during WWII, and lived in Columbia for most of their nearly 65 years together. Sara and Jimmy loved dancing, entertaining and being with their friends and family. They enjoyed many happy times traveling, especially to the SC coast. Primarily a homemaker, Sara also worked as an interior designer. She was an artist who enjoyed assisting her friends with floral arrangements for special occasions and in decorating their homes. Sara was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia, serving on the Mackim-Murphy Guild. She was a dedicated member of the Columbia Dogwood Garden Club and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Special thanks are extended to the staff of Sandpiper Nursing Center Magnolia wing for their compassionate care of Sara during her time there. Mrs. Bryan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally B. and J. B. Drake of Atlanta; sons and daughters-in-law, William A. and Mary Spearman Bryan of Murrells Inlet, John F. and Frances John Bryan of Mt. Pleasant, Allan M. and Elizabeth Groves Bryan of Columbia; grandchildren, Jay Drake (Heidi), Julia Drake, Will Bryan (Amy), Catherine B. MacKelcan (Doug), Carson Bryan, Jack Bryan (Katherine), Lauren B. Williams (Nick), Sara B. Parker (Chip), Doug Bryan, Michael Bryan, Alex Bryan, and Jim Bryan; great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Lily Drake, Mary Grace, Caroline and Sara Hunter Bryan, Gray Bryan and Nicholas Williams; brothers, Henry Morris Richbourg of Quilcene, WA and John Allan Richbourg of Alexandria, VA.
