Sanford "Sam" Harris Solomon

Dr. Sanford "Sam" Harris Solomon, RPH, 73, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Shelley Solomon, entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 5, 2018, after a short and brave battle with Cholangiocarcinoma, surrounded by his loving family. His graveside service will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018 in Emanu-El Cemetery, Sycamore Avenue, Charleston, SC, 29407, at 3:00 P.M. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Sanford was born May 1, 1945 in Charleston, SC, and was the son of the late Samuel David Solomon and Sylvia Tesler Solomon, as well as the brother of the late Alan Mark Solomon. He grew up in Charleston and graduated with honors from the College of Charleston with a B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry. Following college, during the Vietnam War, Dr. Solomon served in the Naval Reserves as a medic corpsman, stationed at Beaufort Naval Hospital. After serving his country, he graduated with honors from the Medical University of South Carolina with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy. He received the William Prout Memorial Award for scholastic excellence in Pharmacy in 1974. He was a member of the Rho Chi Society and the Who's Who of American Colleges and Universities. Dr. Solomon was a retail pharmacist for many years where he received the Preceptor of the Year Award from MUSC College of Pharmacy, Class of 1990, for recognition of outstanding contributions to the education and development of future pharmacists, ethics, and clinical practices. He was a "people's pharmacist" who gave of his time to educate and consult with patients. Sam was also inducted into the Channel 5 Hall of Fame. In 2001 he made a transition to clinical pharmacy at MUSC, and then retired in 2013. During retirement, he worked as a clinical pharmacist for Vibra Hospital.
Dr. Solomon loved the outdoors, especially landscaping and taking care of his yard. He enjoyed traveling with his family, classic rock and Motown music, shagging with Shelley, and all sports. Sam will be best remembered as a kind and patient man with a wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Shelley, his two sons; Brad Alden Solomon of Charleston, and Ryan Scott Solomon of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Hedy Solomon, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maxanne and Donald Abrams; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his two precious pups, Abby and Bentley.
