Sandra Pearl Garfinkel Shapiro, 83, of Portland, Oregon entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Her graveside funeral service will be held Monday, April 29, 2019 in Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery (Maryville), Sycamore Avenue at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Sandra was born August 6, 1935 in Charleston, South Carolina, the youngest of eight children to Sam and Anne Garfinkel. After completing her degree at University of South Carolina, Sandra and Morty started their family in Greensboro NC, then relocated to Atlanta GA, where Sandra acquired another degree from Georgia State University. After 10 years in Atlanta they moved to Wilsonville, Oregon which was home for over 40 years. Sandra's love for being in the great outdoors made her right at home in Oregon, though Charleston was always her true home.Sandra was a unique women, she marched to her own beat and loved life, she wasn't afraid to stand up for what she believed in. Her love of nature, animals, art and beauty were essential to who she was. She had a long and successful career as an interior designer. Sandra spent many years researching her family's genealogy, eventually traveling to Belarus to visit her parents childhood home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Morton "Morty" H. Shapiro. She is survived by her daughter, Rachel M. Hanson and son in law, Rodney L. Hanson of Port Townsend WA and her son, Eric M. Shapiro of Portland OR.
