Sandra Carolyn Hutson Collins (Sandy), of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of Robin Collins, entered into eternal life on July 25, 2026.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1st, 2026, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street at 11 o'clock in the morning. Inurnment will be at Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, July 31st, 2026, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel from 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock in the evening.

Sandy was born November 12, 1942, in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Edith Heisser Hutson and Willard Wilson Hutson. She had many wonderful memories of growing up in Charleston with her sister Sue, and brother Bill, as well as many lovely cousins.

When she graduated from St. Andrew's Parish High School in 1961, she was the recipient of "The General Excellence Award." Sandy graduated with a B.S. in History. While at the College, she served as presidents of the Chi Omega Sorority and the Pan Hellenic Council. In 1967, she received her Master's in Education from Duke University.

Sandy's first teaching assignment was in Atlanta, where she met her husband, Robin. They were married in 1967 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church and lived in Columbia during their first two years of marriage. In 1975, Robin was transferred from Atlanta to Charleston. Sandy and Robin decided to move to Mt. Pleasant to raise their sons, Bryan and Timothy. At that time, the population of Mt. Pleasant was approximately 8,000 people.

Sandy and Robin enjoyed raising their sons, Bryan and Timothy in Mt. Pleasant, and being back in Charleston are with old friends and family.

Her faith, family and friendships were the most important things in her life.

She was an active member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church and served in some of the following positions: Sunday School teacher, Altar Guild, church council, Docent, Archives Committee, and served in a leadership position for St. Matthews Habitat for Humanity project, member of the order of the Daughters of the King, and a member of her beloved Circle 8.

Sandy and her late husband, Robin, felt privileged being able to host large Thanksgiving celebrations with both sides of their families. They loved entertaining and did everything from christening parties to 94-year-old birthday parties, and everything in between.

She enjoyed all of the events and escapades of her grandchildren and found them to be among her greatest blessings. She believed that grandchildren are reminders that the world is full of beautiful surprises.

Sandy always cherished her friendships and sustained many throughout her lifetime. She loved the Girl Scout song with these lyrics" "Make new friends, but keep the old...One is Silver and the other's Gold." She would add that there would always be a few "Platinum" too!

Through the years, she enjoyed membership in the Chi Omega Alumni Association, The Arion Society, the Lutheran Social Services (now known as Neighbors Together), the S.C. Historical Society, the College of Charleston Alumni Association Board, and the J. Waites Waring Society. Among her other pursuits were photography, genealogy, traveling, reading, and shelling.

Sandy is survived by her sons; R. Bryan Collins (Amy), Timothy Hutson Collins; her brother W.W. (Bill) Hutson Jr. (Carol), and her sister-cousin Carole Dame Brown (Tom). In addition, five grandchildren: Timothy Hutson Collins, Jr., Chase Joseph Collins, Caroline Emily Collins, Simons Katherine Collins, and Courtney Elizabeth Collins. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robin, her parents, and her sister, Suzanne Hutson Young.
