Samuel Jay Query, 80, husband of the late Fern Ollis Query, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, passed Friday, February 15, 2013. The relatives and friends of Samuel Query are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends Monday, February 18, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral chapel.
Mr. Query was born March 25, 1932 in Manilla, Phillipines, the son of the late Captain James Victor and Evelyn Query. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during the time of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his service, he was a awarded the Navy Occupation Service Medal for Europe, and National Defense Service Medal and was awarded the Good Conduct Award five times. He retired after 22 years in the Navy working on nuclear submarines. A trained electrician, he then worked for and retired from the Physical Plant Division at MUSC following 23 years of service. Mr. Query was a member of the Sierra Club, Green Peace, and Friends of Bill. He was a SC High School Football Referee for 25 years, during which time he was named the Official of the Year in 1987. For more than 15 years, he coached with the Mt. Pleasant Recreation Department. Above all else, his passion was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Karen Hodge and her husband, Derrick of Moncks Corner, SC, James Victor Query and his wife, Lynn Saylors of Columbia, SC, Mike Query of North Charleston, SC, Kim Cecil and her husband, Greg of Bonneau, SC, and Troy Query and his wife, Michele of Awendaw, SC; his grandchildren, Charles Lansing and his wife, Meredith of Charlotte, NC, Greg Cecil, Jr. and his wife, Shannon of Goose Creek, SC, Samuel Baggett of San Diego, CA, Michael Cecil and his wife, Jade of Summerville, SC, Kimberly Puckett and her husband, Mark of Summerville, SC, Aunjanai Query of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Cecelia Query of Awendaw, SC, Tabatha Query of Awendaw, SC, Kane Query of Charleston, SC, and Jordan Query of Columbia, SC; and his great-grandchildren, Christian Cecil of Goose Creek, SC, Zackary Cecil of Goose Creek, SC, and Madison Puckett of Summerville, SC.
