Samuel Radford Marshall, 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Patricia Ann Wyatt Marshall, died Sunday, November 11, 2012. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 in the John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway at 12:00 Noon with the entombment to follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.Sam was born December 18, 1927 in Clay, Kentucky, son of the late Nathaniel Gilbert Marshall and Elizabeth Willingham Marshall. The family moved to Madisonville, KY where he spent most of his childhood. He was a Corporal in the Army for a brief time and was honorably discharged in 1951 due to medical reasons. Sam moved to Charleston in June of 1963 where he began his career as Retail Advertising Manager with the New and Courier. In May 1983, he moved to Georgetown, SC to become President and Publisher of the Georgetown Times. He returned to Charleston in October 1987 to become National Advertising Manager with the New and Courier until he retired on January 1, 1990. Sam was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and sang with the JWUMC Choir for over 30 years. He also sang with the Charleston Men's Chorus. He was a former member of the Toastmasters, Lion's Club and Mason's. Sam was an avid golfer and also a member of the USGA. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Marshall, his daughter, Pam LaBoone, four sons, David, Steven, John and Todd Marshall Sr., daughter-in-law, Gini Marshall, son-in-law, Tony LaBoone, four grandchildren, LeAnn Teitsort, Rachel LaBoone, Todd Marshall, Jr. and Kyle Marshall all of Charleston.Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of SC, 409 King Street, Suite 300, Charleston, SC 29403.
