Samuel Edward Howerth

Samuel Edward Howerth, 90, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Jane Ellen Reynolds Howerth for 65 years, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Sam was born February 24, 1933, in New Lexington, Ohio, son of the late Ray Howerth and the late Alice Ridenour Howerth. He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1951, and then served in The United States Navy from 1951-1955 where he gained his building skills in the Seabees. He worked at The Matthews Boat Company, The Port Clinton Lumber Company, and for many years was self-employed as a general contractor. He co-owned The Sportin' House Rentals, a canoe sales and rental company, with his brother Dennis. He personally designed and made park benches that are placed around the North Coast for all to enjoy.

Sam was involved throughout the years as a Portage Township Trustee, and a member of Ducks Unlimited. He treasured God's creation as an avid outdoorsman. His loves were family, baseball, and ice cream. Upon retiring to Charleston, South Carolina, Sam was a member of St. Michael's Anglican Church. He enjoyed Folly Beach and Charleston River Dogs minor league baseball games.

In addition to his wife, Samuel is survived by four daughters, Susan Celek (Timothy) of Costa Mesa, CA, Sally Schoenfeld (Ken) of Cape Coral, FL, Martha Celek (Brian) of Charleston, SC, and Judy Dosher (Burrell) of Charleston, SC; four siblings, Pat Schraidt, Gary Howerth, Shelia White, and Dennis Howerth, all of Port Clinton, OH; eight grandchildren, Lindsey Weil (Rob), Emily Jacks (Taylor), Lauren Moore (Jeff), Brison Celek (Kelly), Samantha Celek, Katie Dosher, Anne Dosher, Beau Dosher; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Jacks, Elijah Moore and Genevieve Celek.

A private family memorial will take place in Port Clinton, Ohio. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, May 28, at Port Clinton Knights of Columbus from 2:00 - 4:00 PM.
