Sambamurti Subramania Keelapandal, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Vasantha Doraiswamy Keelapandal, entered into eternal rest Saturday, January 25, 2020. His funeral service arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, are pending.
Sambamurti was born October 10, 1928, son of the late Veera Subramania Iyer and the late Pattammal Iyer. He was a retired Chief Electrical Engineer with Integral Coach Factory, Indian Railways. He was listed in the Railway Book of World Records for modernizing suburban Railways in Chennai (then Madras). Sambamurti loved traveling, reading, gardening, sudoko, cricket and basketball.
He is survived by: his son, Kumar Sambamurti and daughter-in-law, Meera Parasuraman of Charleston, SC; daughter, Usha Venkatasubramanian and son-in-law, Venkatosubramanian Venkatachalam of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India; son-in-law, Guruswami Sridharan of San Diego, CA; two grandsons: Karthik (Sushma) Sridharan of San Diego, CA, Varun Venkatasubramanian of Chennai, India; three granddaughters: Arati (Saravanan Rajagopal) Sridharan of Phoenix, AZ, Vidya (Venkateshwaran Ramasubramanian) Venkateshwaran of San Jose, CA, Vasantha Sambamurti of Charleston, SC; three great-grandsons: Agastya Sridharan of San Diego, CA; Omkar Venkateshwaran and Tejas Venkateshwaran, both of San Jose, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vasantha Keelapandal, daughter, Sushila Sridaharan, and his parents, Veera Subramania Iyer and Veera Subramania Iyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hindi Temple of Charleston, 1740 Jervey Avenue, Charleston, SC 29447.
