Sam Tillman Owens

Sam Tillman Owens, Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Joyce Ford Owens entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of August 11, 2011.  The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Owens are invited to attend the funeral services of the former at James Island Baptist Church, Monday, August 15, 2011 at 2 pm.  Entombment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5 pm.


Born on May 13, 1936 in Charleston, South Carolina, Sam was the son of the late Sam Tillman Owens, Sr. and Sarah Helen Ackerman Owens.  He was a retired Computer Technician and retired Harbor Master with the Charleston Harbor Marina.  Sam was a member of Charleston Baptist Church and former member of James Island Baptist Church.  He was a Honorary member of Trinity Bible Church, Masonic  Blue Lodge, Past Master of Strict Observance Lodge #73 (Mariner #2), Past Jr. Grand Deacon of the Grand Lodge of SC.


Surviving are his wife, Joyce Owens of Charleston; daughter, Jeanine Owens Edmondson of Charleston; three sons, Kenneth Michael Owens, Sr. and wife Donna Owens of Summerville, Sam Tillman Owens, III and wife Sharon Owens of Charleston, Mark Alan Owens and wife Felicia Owens of Charleston; sister, Betty Owens Funderburk and husband Bernard Funderburk of Charleston; ten grandchildren, Kenneth Michael Owens, Jr., Heather Renee Owens, Matthew Taylor Owens, Michael Scott Edmondson (Michelle), Rachael Leigh Edmondson, Whitney Anne Edmondson, Christina Ann Bulmer (Chris), Joel Godleski, Nathan Godleski, Jonathan Godleski; six great grandchildren; and a niece, Angela Hornish and husband Ryan Hornish of Greenville.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a church of your choice.
