Salvatore James Muscarella, 95, of Goose Creek, SC, widower of Leonora Azzaro Muscarella, entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 14, 2013. His Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2013, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 19, 2013, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm with a wake service beginning at 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH WOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road. A Mass will also be held in St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Westbury NY, under the direction of Edward F. Lieber Funeral Home with Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell and military honors at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, New York.
Sal was born July 3, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York, one of six children of the late Salvatore and the late Concetta Immordino Muscarella. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. During his career as a Quality Assurance Engineer for Sperry Corp., he was involved with inspecting the components for the Lunar Module. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knight as a member of Council 11991. He was also a member of VFW Post 10256 in Goose Creek. Throughout his life he was very active, swimming everyday until the age of 90, volunteering to work the roadside tootsie roll campaign and was instrumental with the Bocce Ball tournament for Special Olympics. Sal helped establish an Order of the Sons of Italy in America at Immaculate Conception. He enjoyed the beach, being with people and was a friend to many.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be dearly missed by his daughter, Maria Vasselman and her husband, Fred, of Goose Creek, SC; son, Gary Muscarella and his wife, Linda, of Montvale, NJ; grandchildren: Alex Vasselman of Madison, WI, Michael Vasselman of Goose Creek, SC, Leanne Muscarella of Boston, MA and Joseph Muscarella of New York, NY; and brothers: Joseph Muscarella and his wife, Gertrude, of New Bedford, MA and Thomas Muscarella and his wife, Louisa, of West Hempstead, NY.
