Ryan "Heath" Forbes

Ryan HEATH Forbes, 43 of Hanahan, SC husband of Jill Mayo Forbes passed away Monday, May 27, 2024. His Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 at Seacoast Church - West Ashley, 2049 Savannah Highway at 11:00 am.  Family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.

Heath was born on June 4, 1980, in Raleigh, NC to both Jo Todd (Steve Todd, stepfather) and Tim Forbes (father).

In addition to his wife Jill, he is survived by children:  Will, Micah and Lydia; brother, Trever Forbes (Caley); niece and nephew: Ellie and Eli; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Amy Eddins (Jason); and nephews: Judd and Isaac; and Judy Mayo (mother-in-law) and the late Frank Mayo (father-in-law).

Heath grew up in Clayton, NC. Graduated from Clayton High School in 1998. Attended Gardner Webb University while dually enrolled at University of NC at Charlotte and graduated with his undergraduate in Math and Civil Engineering in 2004. He then graduated with his Masters in Geotechnical Engineering at The University of Florida in 2007. Heath was hired in 2007 by S&ME.  He spent his entire professional career as a Geotechnical Engineer at S&ME gaining industry respect, his professional license, and increasing responsibility which included managing the South Carolina I-95 widening project from the Georgia Border.  His engineering legacy includes the 2,600 ft-long Indian River Inlet cable-stayed bridge in Coastal Delaware, the 16 mile-long Portsmouth Bypass which included 22 bridges in Southern Ohio, and a new port development on the Panama Canal, where he spent several months with Jill and his kids.  He was nominated and won the John R. Browning Young Professional of the Year Award in 2016.  In 2020, Heath and Jill opened Lumber Jill's Axe Throwing Lounge in Summerville as a place to build community, give back, and have fun.

During his Junior year of college, and while on a Missions Trip to Puerto Rico, he proposed to Jill. They married on December 15, 2001. During the nearly 23 years of marriage Heath was highly involved in various ministry opportunities at all the churches they attended. This included Pre-Marital and Marriage Ministries, Music Worship Teams and Student Ministries. He went on numerous mission trips visiting 16 countries where he developed a love for people and culture that permeated his life, especially Spanish speaking culture and people in general. His accomplishments professionally and ministerially were awesome, but pale in comparison to the impact he had on his family and community.  His consistency, stability, and compassion without pretense were the tip of the iceberg. His careful consideration of decisions he faced - for those that knew him understood and dealt with his constant analysis paralysis. It was that quality that made him an exceptional engineer and minister to so many.  When he spoke, you knew that it was true and from the heart and was solid.

We are so grateful for the way he lived out the Gospel in his daily life and are celebrating the way he loved others in humility and grace.
