Ruth Crymes Wilson, wife of Hugh McColl Wilson, MD, departed this life to be with her Lord and savior on January 13, 2021. Born December 30, 1944, Ruth was the daughter of Marvin Trowbridge Crymes and Ruth Wells Crymes of Greenville, SC. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Mary Jane Teat and Caroline Crymes Ross. She is survived by her husband, one brother, John Marvin Crymes, one son, Hugh McColl Wilson, Jr. M. D. (Amanda), one daughter, Caroline Wilson Frenzel (Michael), and one granddaughter, Callie.
Ruth celebrated 51 years of marriage to her loving husband, Hugh. She was graduated from Greenville High School, attended Brenau University, and graduated from the University of South Carolina. After teaching elementary school in Atlanta, Georgia, and in Charleston, she married her husband, who had just finished medical college and joined him in several years of medical training and military service in Boston, Massachusetts, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Nashville, Tennessee. Blessed with the births of a son and a daughter, Ruth gave up her teaching career to devote herself to caring for her family. A member of the Junior League, she became an active member and lay leader at St. Michael's Church in Charleston.
She was gifted with many talents and gave of herself lovingly and with humor to the needs of her family. Possessed of a quick wit, a rare degree of common sense, and steadiness in the vicissitudes of life, she provided her adoring husband of 51 years, her children, and many lifelong friends with a loving Christian presence.
She will be lovingly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A small graveside service will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 in St. Michael's Churchyard. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
